ABSTRACT

Decades of research demonstrate that both preschool and school-age children learn from well-produced educational television series. This chapter reviews research on children's learning from educational television, including both immediate impact on knowledge and skills, and long-term effects extending up to ten years. Next, the review turns to theoretical constructs that explore cognitive processing at work in comprehension and transfer of educational content on television, long-term impact, and the unique nature of learning from engagement with related content across multiple media platforms.
