ABSTRACT

The Bo i Gemenskap (BiG) group has six active members: Ingela Blomberg, Kerstin Karnekull, Gunilla Lundahl, Ann Norrby, Inga-Lisa Sangregorio and Sonja Viden with backgrounds in architecture, urban planning, art history and journalism. This chapter looks at the collaborative practice of BiG and their collective housing concept. It foregrounds the ‘witness seminar’ as a method for participatory research which the authors who are part of a research collective themselves, explore in their practice. BiG promoted an ideal size of ‘the small collective house’ organised from the activities within, with between 15 and 50 individual small flats including individual kitchens, several large shared spaces and a schedule for common cooking and meals. Fardknappen is a typical BiG concept house which has received international attention in research projects and publications lately.
