ABSTRACT

When addressing community health needs and implementing interventions in the community, an action plan and programme logic model derived from local studies are needed to guide the policy makers in carrying out effective implementation strategies. It is crucial to involve different stakeholders from health and non-health sectors to set priorities of interventions through developing comprehensive strategies, programmes and initiatives. Stakeholders usually include the government, community leaders, health practitioners and local residents in a community. The community stakeholders have shared health challenges and their widespread of collaboration can catalyse positive health behavioural changes in the community. The engagement of strategic partners in the planning and implementation can make a collective impact on community health interventions. A collective impact can contribute to the commitment of the stakeholders to common objectives and goals for intervening a health issue. Thus, assets in the community can be leveraged for collective health improvement efforts. This chapter integrates the concepts of collective impact approach into a framework for effective community health interventions proposed by the authors. The framework consists of five elements that explain how stakeholders collaborate with each other by maintaining respectful relationships and open communication, as well as cultural competence. In addition, the role of a backbone organisation can help to coordinate the collective efforts contributed by stakeholders.
