ABSTRACT

This chapter explores racism within and beyond the psychiatric survivor movement. It discusses some current issues faced by those who qualify to work in the US peer industry, in terms of the state-sponsored system’s racist practices. Our movement must acknowledge and eliminate these racist and classist tendencies and support abolition of slavery in all of its forms, including as a form of punishment as allowed in the US by the Thirteenth Amendment, and how in prisons and jails, and in silent tandem in psychiatric institutions, slavery is maintained via the psy industries.
