ABSTRACT

In this chapter we discuss, from a psychological point of view, how fiction can influence implicit biases, such as biases involved in unconscious racist and sexist attitudes and stereotypes. As many works of fiction may present stereotypes in certain forms, it is likely that we learn implicit bias from fiction. In this chapter, we will delve into the various ways we can learn bias from fiction. We will also address whether fiction can help in mitigating implicit biases.
