ABSTRACT
This chapter will offer the reader an insight into the history and current contexts of nursing and people with intellectual disability, an outline of the key health issues facing people with intellectual disability, and a description of contemporary contexts where the nursing of people with intellectual disability occurs. It will provide readers with an opportunity to build a knowledge base and develop nursing skills specific to people with intellectual disability, and will also provide an overview of future challenges to nursing and nurses who practice in this area.
