ABSTRACT
This chapter will offer the reader an overview of the key characteristics of the Australian prison population, an insight into the complexity of health issues experienced by incarcerated individuals, and a description of what nursing in the prison environment involves. It will also provide readers with an overview of the challenges faced by nurses working in the prison environment.
