ABSTRACT
Child sexual abuse evokes strong responses individually and socially. Over the past 40 years there has been increasing public awareness and official responses to child sexual abuse. This chapter explores some of the main issues relating to the sexual safety of children. It discusses the language and definition of child sexual abuse, before exploring prevalence and risk factors. Throughout the chapter there are examples and practice issues highlighted, along with discussion points at the end of the chapter.
