ABSTRACT

Since advent of the new educational dispensation, the role of women in school leadership has been one of the focus areas for redress. Chapter 14 puts the evolution of gender issues within the school leadership discourse into perspective. The history of women involvement in school leadership is highlighted in terms of the legislative framework and gender equity. The chapter reports on a study that was carried out through using a feminist theory whereby different studies on gender and leadership within the South African school education were analyzed. The findings in this chapter discuss the successes and challenges women experience in school leadership.
