ABSTRACT

The non-governmental organization will provide a purchase undertaking to the trustees to ensure that the funding for the project is provided as the dissolution or redemption amount to be transferred to the sukuk holders at the end of the project. This chapter discusses viable alternative financial solutions for sustainable financing of refugees and suggests a potential Islamic finance solution to achieve the best possible outcomes for refugee financing in Turkey. Current funding methods for managing the refugee crisis are insufficient due to the vast volume of refugees. Issuing social impact sukuk to address the funding of refugee camps could be both a viable economic and political solution for the current government. Several Islamic finance solutions for sustainable financing were explored before recommending a special feature social impact sukuk for the refugee problem, after considerations of cost-effectiveness and the current challenges of fundraising for social projects in Turkey.
