ABSTRACT

Work and domestic labours have always drawn attention of parents away from their children, but modern technology poses a host of new challenges. However, caution is necessary: the research is still catching up with contemporary habits, and the people do not yet have the kind of data that will allow the reader to understand the true implications of technology on our sense of belonging to others and to groups. While some of the consequences of modern technology may have concerning implications for the average teenager, even the dangers have the potential to make the reader more aware of how young people connect with others. While there is a consensus that feeling a sense of belonging has a positive impact on physical health and wellbeing, further investigation is needed to help the reader to understand the factors which influence belonging itself, particularly with respect to technology.
