ABSTRACT
The number of international students in the United States that transfer from community colleges to 4-year institutions continues to increase. Few studies have examined the experiences of these students. International students who transfer from community colleges should be recognized by 4-year institutions as a subgroup of students with potentially unique academic characteristics, challenges, and needs. In this chapter, we aim to distinguish the subgroup of international transfer students by comparing their characteristics with those of traditional international students. Specifically, we examine the demographic and academic profiles of international students at a major university in California. Additionally, we identify and discuss potential ways to provide institutional support services to the targeted student population in order to assist their academic trajectory towards baccalaureate success.
