ABSTRACT

Historiography of mathematics dates back to antiquity. The scope of the investigations into the history of mathematics was continuously widened during the 19th century. Towards the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, the growth in the interest about history of mathematics was considerably promoted by the great German scientist and one of the initiators of the movement for the reform of mathematics teaching in the secondary schools. F. Klein. The most important pre-condition for speeding up the progress of investigations on the history of mathematics and of the other sciences, is the preparation of better workers with Suitable specializations, in the institutions of higher learning and, the establishment of institutes of history of science. The complete history of mathematics, like that of any other science, consists not only of the history of its ideas, but also of the history of the people who created that science, that of their collectives.
