ABSTRACT

Successful collaborative working is built on a combination of people, processes and technology, which means addressing some of the concerns voiced by potential Information and communication technology (ICT) users. Collaboration technology can support both internal and external integration processes. While resistance to using collaborative technology may reflect concerns about working in a more transparent partnering-type environment, it may also evidence more specific concerns about selecting and using a new technology to handle mission-critical information. In a partnering context, the client and team should seek a technology that will support their key processes and information requirements in the long-term. The Application service providers can then focus on core activities such as software development, devising improvements and new features based on the collective experiences of both construction ICT partners and direct customers. However, the technology can equally be used on multi-project programmes, for example by teams employed under five-year framework agreements.
