ABSTRACT

Portera discusses Bauman’s perspective about risks and challenges of globalization, interdependence and cultural pluralism, and suggests the existence of opportunities, stating we are not spending enough time highlighting the positive aspects as peace, democracy and cultural pluralism.

Bauman answers that risks and opportunities are inseparable twins and explains why between “eucolon” (the list of what was found good and well in an ordinary day) and “discolon” (what was found disparaging and off-putting) he leans to the discolon side, because to enlist people to the cause of justice you need first to open their eyes to the injustice of the status quo, and it is the expanding intolerance to injustice that results in the expansion of justice.
