ABSTRACT
Portera complains about the loss or erosion of ecosystems that has caused real tragedies, and highlights the irreversible decline of biodiversity, pollution, overpopulation, overharvesting – all factors related to human beings. The human species now represents an ecological disaster of colossal magnitude and is at risk of going extinct.
Bauman admits the present uphill struggle, the challenge no less daunting than the untying of the proverbial Gordian knot, that the earth reveals itself as a coal-mining district entirely left to the wind's blowing, but says that in the blindest of the worlds, the presence of people who nevertheless insist on the possibility of its change acquires supreme importance.
