ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains why working directly with the children and acknowledging their victim status is so important. It offers a wider European perspective on children's experiences of domestic abuse. The book provides a unique insight into the construction of domestic violence and abuse in rural Pakistan and the impact of this on the children. It discusses the role of school for children experiencing domestic violence. The book discusses some of the barriers and opportunities associated with help-seeking for children who live in homes where there is domestic abuse. It explores ways to help children and young people make positive changes to their sense of self and attachment styles.
