ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents some of the gendered assumptions relating to children who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) within their homes. It focuses on the rationale and challenges underlying the practice of engaging children in research. The book discusses the self-regulation capacities of young people exposed to violence. It explores the barriers to help-seeking by victim/survivors. The book discusses the negotiation of power, ethics and agency with participants when developing interventions. It discusses the impact of IPV on children's internal working models. The book proposes a framework to enable the empowerment of children and young people who have been victims of domestic violence and abuse.
