ABSTRACT

In this chapter, particular attention will be given to vocational and social dimensions related to the transition to adulthood among emerging adults (aged 18 to 25) who are outside of their country, separated from their parents and families. Specifically, in this chapter, the barriers and difficulties related to career development and social/work inclusion experienced by young asylum-seekers (YAS) will be briefly overviewed. Then, based on the Life Design paradigm for an inclusive and sustainable future, different quantitative and qualitative studies involving YAS will be described. Finally, individual and contextual interventions and actions to promote inclusive and sustainable career development and YAS's participation in their work and social life will be presented.
