ABSTRACT

The Occupational Fitness for Duty (FFD) psychological evaluation assesses specific work-related psychological domains. Furthermore, results from the FFD evaluation are frequently communicated in a focused, rather concise report. The psychological FFD evaluation, also known as Occupationally Mandated Psychological Evaluation is a type of forensic psychological evaluation. Thus, it differs from psychological and psychiatric evaluations performed in a healthcare setting. The FFD evaluation arises when an individual’s behavior creates concerns pertaining to workplace and/or public safety. There are many types of FFD evaluation. Examples include the pre-employment evaluation for public safety personnel. The fundamental psycho-legal construct organizing the FFD evaluation is whether the individual’s psychological or psychiatric functioning interferes with the performance of the job. The case of Dr. Ether features elements of erotomania and, very interestingly, a quasi-Fregoli delusion as well as obsessional stalking behavior. Meloy, Rivera, Siegel, Gothard, Nalmark, & Nicolini and colleagues studied empirical correlates of obsessional stalking.
