ABSTRACT

An individual's quality of life is significantly affected by his or her self concept. For persons with a disability and their families, self concept is influenced by a multitude of daily interactions with individuals who teach, work, live with and care for disabled persons. This chapter focuses on the value orientation and education issues surrounding rehabilitation practitioners working in rehabilitation settings such as schools, workshops and residential settings. The term rehabilitation practitioner is used in this chapter to designate a specific value base and orientation of frontline staff in employment roles, which focus on giving disabled persons attitudes, personal interaction skills and daily living skills needed to improve the quality of life. The challenge of effective information and skill dissemination in the present has great impact on the quality of life for disabled persons in the next decade.
