ABSTRACT

The academic environment is filled with competition and isolation as structural questions like lack of funding, emphasis on productivity and heavy workloads do not promote community sense or distributed leadership. In addressing this subject, this chapter has appealing suggestions that could point directions for the adoption by Brazilian universities. Since financial resources are usually an obstacle in Brazilian universities, the structure of the forum allows it to be organised without large budgets which can provide a good return for the academic community with a relatively low investment. The forum-based proposal also has the potential to encourage the exchange of knowledge and practices between different fields, which is pivotal since working in an interdisciplinary way has always been challenging because of the way Brazilian universities are organized. The text contains some practical recommendations that can be straightforwardly applied in the Ukrainian higher education context.
