Taking a strategic, whole-institution approach to understanding and then developing the role of programme leader (PL) is crucial to PL and so institutional success. Before PLs can be supported and developed, it is crucial to understand their professional environment, the policies, processes and people they work. Contributions written by strategic leaders and educational developers working across their institutions or sector offer detailed accounts of their work, successes and lessons learned and spotlight PLs' experience and voices.
