ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book aims to how higher education institutions that invest in programme leaders (PLs) may enjoy student, departmental and institutional success. Institutions must now take what is discussed herein and elsewhere to the create environments that encourage PLs to use their agency in the creation of excellent student experiences, meaningful work for their programme team and the development of their own leadership role. The oft-cited trope that no one-size-fits-all is very applicable in the development of support for PLs. The role of a PL involves being a facilitator and coordinator; it can be emancipatory. Encouraging the programme team to take shared ownership of the programme leads to a greater appreciation of the complexity of the role and a better understanding of the programme.
