ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an annotated list of information sources relevant to understanding and responding to the rural aging experience. Several sources are focused solely on rural aging, and others are focused on aging, or rural with an aging component. Sources are organized by format: online portals and repositories, key reports, data sources, journals, research databases, and “gray” literature. Key organizations that produce information on rural aging are identified: federal agencies, research centers, foundations, and national organizations. Online portals and repositories provide opportunities to access a variety of resources including reports, government documents, policy briefs, webinars, and organizations related to a specific subject. The chapter provide access to data related to aging, often with a rural/urban breakdown, covering demographics, health status, health services, health disparities, housing, income and poverty, behavioral health, and social determinants of health. Gray literature represents a variety of document types published by government, business, industry, and academic and research institutions outside of traditional commercial or academic publishing.
