ABSTRACT

A 2018 study across multiple rural states found a constellation of factors made it significantly more likely for older adults to use technology, including being married, younger age, fewer depressive symptoms, better self-rated health, and better quality social support. Technology is now a central focus for every industry, and the constant evolution of new devices and applications can be overwhelming to end users of any age, but particularly for those who were born long before computers, smart phones, Wi-Fi, and artificial intelligence became part of daily life. Virtual and augmented reality have been primarily used for gaming in the past, which has continued to expand rapidly; however, additional use cases are evolving, which have specific relevance for older adults. Given the rapid expansion of technology and its potential uses across the globe, cybersecurity is also constantly evolving to keep up with emerging threats.
