ABSTRACT

France is known for rather all-encompassing cultural policies. The chapter aims at investigating the resilience of the French cultural bodies confronted with the pandemic. The chapter offers an overview of the weight of culture in France, followed by a presentation of the main bodies involved in the implementation and funding of these cultural policies. It reviews the initiatives adopted to support the industries during the pandemic. These initiatives are then confronted with the viewpoints of some leading stakeholders. However, the impact of the pandemic on the various segments and sub-segments of the CCIs varies. Indeed, the chapter stresses that the industry is not unified, there are major differences between players creating tensions. Elements about the demand side and its future evolution are considered.
