ABSTRACT

Prior to starting any intervention, it is best practice to ensure that you have created a positive environment for all students. Regardless of whether you are in a classroom or therapeutic setting, these suggestions will help to provide a setting that is conducive to successful intervention. By creating an environment where expectations are clear, reinforcement is provided, you can often prevent additional problematic behaviors for your target students as well as other students. These suggestions are appropriate for both a classroom as well as a therapeutic setting. A high level of structure and predictable activities will allow children and adolescents to know what to do and what your expectations are in a given situation.
