ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines with insights on how existentialist authenticity or its negotiated version and its self authentication can comply with the ethical aspects of hedonic and eudaimonic pursuits to promote overall well-being of the self and the host societies. Existentialist authenticity aims to bring harmonious balance through exhilarated and truth of the moment experiences and theoplacity enables connection with the inner self in an essentialist setting; both prominently contribute towards individual well-being. The theoplacity position of authenticity gives a location/place context to existentialist authenticity, particularly in heritage tourism. A surge in recent studies on existentialist authenticity has long term implications in the field of scholarship and in terms of practical application. For a more nuanced appreciation for well-being and moral orientations of existential authenticity, it would be of practical and academic significance to study how self authentication and moralized also existentially authentic encounters with traditionally cultural, indigenous aspirations of wellness and immersive heritage programs offer eudaimonic and therapeutic benefits.
