ABSTRACT

Emotional intelligence is considered an important personality prediction factor. The article summarizes recent findings about the relations between emotional intelligence and career decision-making. Current theories of career decision-making emphasize the process model that includes the Profile of Career Decision-making, which distinguishes 12 adaptive and maladaptive career decision-making strategies. The chapter presents the results of the authors’ previous research in Slovakia. The first section describes the relations between perceived emotional intelligence and career decision-making strategies. In the second section, trait emotional intelligence as a predictor of decision-making strategies is examined. In the current research the previous findings are broadened to include Slovak university students. Results of the studies support the important role of perceived emotional intelligence and trait emotional intelligence in the adaptive career decision-making strategies of Slovak adolescents.
