ABSTRACT

The chapter analyzes aspects of Petrides’s (2009) trait emotional intelligence model, complementary to Gardner’s multiple intelligence concept. Gardner’s concept became a theoretical baseline for the conceptualization of personal intelligences (i.e., interpersonal and intrapersonal). Similarities of the theoretical (including neurological) conceptualizations of personal intelligences vs. emotional intelligence are analyzed, with a special focus on the intersection with trait emotional intelligence. This complementarity was empirically analyzed by the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – short form, and by Gardner’s recommended questionnaire, known as the Multiple Intelligences Test. A unique combination of Gardner’s multiple intelligence and Petrides’s trait emotional intelligence provides a more complete understanding of human social behavior.
