ABSTRACT

While having recognized the tremendous progress that was achieved during the 30 years following the application of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the chapter highlights what is necessary to ensure its wider implementation. As noted, the implementation of the CRC is a multi-faceted process, consisting of different activities, actions, and strategies, which involves a variety of actors and close cooperation between them. The author analyzes the main forms of activities of the CRC Committee that directly address the States parties on issues of concerns in concluding observations, general comments, and views adopted as a result of a consideration of individual communications. The chapter also highlights the growth in child participation as a new phenomenon, which is increasingly pushing governments to pay more attention to children’s rights. Finally, the advancements in new technologies, particularly, in biomedicine and digital environment, bring new challenges for those involved in the protection of children’s rights. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the need to build a culture of respect for children and their views in order to achieve a better and wider implementation of the CRC.
