ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to take stock of the CRC’s influence on Israeli law, pointing to a broad recognition of it as a new conceptual basis for Israeli law. The examination of the scope of change in Israeli law was conducted in light of the CRC’s four principles: non-discrimination; the best interests of the child; the child’s life, survival, and development; and participation. All of them affected Israeli law, though the extent of their acceptance was shown to be significantly different and their full implementation still faces real challenges. This chapter presents initial explanations for the limits of the CRC’s influence on Israeli law and preliminary suggestions for promoting its application.
