ABSTRACT

This chapter tells the story of Philip’s personal experience of inclusion in international schools: Starting from his early experiences in the Middle East in 2009, to his most recent experiences in Southeast Asia 2021. It is a journey that involves hiding in cupboards, understanding cultural differences, disappointment, optimism, and then finally, embracing students with diverse learning needs. It is a story about change, about shifting mindsets and the power of committed administrators and teachers. It is also a story of personal and professional growth. At its heart, it is a story about how the international school community is re-imaging itself in order to embrace all students regardless of need, and the joy and pride of being part of that ongoing process.
