ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Erika shares how cultural context, understanding, and positive familial relationships helped her to engage others in conversations around learning support and inclusion. She contrasts the ideas and expectations around learning differences between the United States and Guatemala, and how focusing on policy, programs, places, people, and processes helped a school reimagine what inclusion looks like in their community. Lastly, Erika encourages any educator reading her chapter to bring their experience and expertise to the table, listen for cultural context, foster relationships, and aspire to leave a legacy.
