ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author mostly refers to the minimal idea that a version of equality is achieved when there is no relation of power between the parties involved, when submission of one to the other — structural, traditional or otherwise — does not exist. This is the notion of equality the people can sense being used within many feminist movements. The village priest’s invasion of the school space was both illegal and unnecessary. It was also violent and it staged a clearly gendered scene. On the whole, it is not self-evident to assume the existence of a connexion between a religious text and a religion as the people may encounter it in real life. At any rate, prophecy is not necessarily about predicting the future. Perhaps the people should note that Suchon’s goal is to contradict the opposite view, namely that this command or prophecy would be valid for ever, which was also already an interpretation.
