ABSTRACT

This chapter examines three common ways in which the media gets just war theory and the ethics of war wrong. This includes confusing right intentions and just cause, confusing support for the troops and support for the war effort, and the lack of attention given to post-war justice. The chapter argues that the media’s confused portrayal of these issues affects the public’s response to war efforts and that it plays a significant role in undermining public trust in the military, threatening meaningful civilian oversight of military actions.
