ABSTRACT

Climate change is one of the most pressing global environmental concerns of our time. International efforts to create a legal regime to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system have been ongoing for 30 years. Yet, atmospheric levels of greenhouse gases continue to rise. The effects of climate change are becoming more evident, including increased and more severe and extreme weather events, marine heatwaves, ocean acidification and sea level rise. This chapter outlines the global legal regime to address climate change, current developments and remaining issues.
