ABSTRACT

Southeast Asian nations share many similar environmental issues to those in other parts of the world. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) envisions a green and clean region. However, effective environmental governance has not been fully achieved. This chapter evaluates recent developments in Southeast Asia including the implementation of legal frameworks and governance system to meet changing circumstances. There are still many political, policy and other challenges in South East Asia, and if the ASEAN vision for a green and clean region is to be realised, there is still much that needs to be done.
