ABSTRACT

The United States Military Academy (USMA) graduates the future leaders of our Army who live honorably, lead honorably, and demonstrate excellence. Tactical officers are a unique resource for cadets as they bridge the gap between the four pillars and are responsible for managing the development of each cadet. Tactical officers are the primary leader developers within the company, legal commanders for the cadets, teachers for military leader development classes, mentors for future Army leaders, and coaches to those who are not meeting the standard. Warner Burke equates the difficulty of defining leadership to that of defining love. The definitions of leadership vary depending on an individual’s personal theory regarding leadership. The most effective assessments come from a variety of sources, including a superior, subordinates, and peers, to create a 360-degree feedback program. Deliberate planning and preparations were necessary to conduct this yearlong initiative.
