ABSTRACT

The lives of older people are at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic as their immune system is weak to fight the virus. It has been reported that older people are more susceptible to COVID-19 and have higher likelihood of dying from the disease. This chapter offers options on how older adults can be supported through social networks and social security schemes in Ghana during this pandemic. Some social workers also played a crucial role in educating Ghanaians about their responsibilities in the fight against COVID-19 and observing social distancing measures. More is therefore required from social protection agencies in educating the older population on COVID-19 and its preventive measures. This is as a result of the misinformation and disinformation on the pandemic among the general Ghanaian population. The non-governmental organizations that are into social protection should make an effort to provide social support to older people to improve their living conditions.
