ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic is putting a spotlight on older adults, a population that many social workers, ourselves included, devote entire careers to. The COVID-19 pandemic, with its devastating effect on older adults and people of color in the US, has shed great light on how inequity has led to extreme differences in illness and mortality rates. AGESW board member Cal Halvorsen is collaborating with leadership of the Massachusetts Senior Community Service Employment Program, the only federal workforce training program designed for older workers, to understand the role of SCSEP in the well-being of participants and how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected low-income older adults seeking paid work. AGESW provides leadership in the areas of gerontological social work education, research, and policy, while fostering cooperation, collegiality, and an exchange of ideas among social work educators, researchers, and students committed to or interested in gerontology.
