ABSTRACT

Traditionally, tourism scholarship has focused on the relationship of urban tourism with materiality and transport, but its approaches lack of a deeper theoretical analysis from the field of mobilities. The methodological framework also comprised a literature review on urban tourism and contemporary urban planning, as well as a mapping and an inventory in grey literature, official publications and tourism websites. Urban tourism and other related practices are mentioned as additional reasons to reinforce the dismantling solution, and a large and extensive promenade at ground level would enhance attractive urban landscapes where, today, the environment is repulsive. At the urban level, new apps launched in 2020 combine gamification with the promise of alternative urban experiences, in “tours with no social interaction”. Amidst (re)interpretations of urban spaces and routines, questions arise about what would be the possible consequences for large cities.
