ABSTRACT

Many people believe the term “script analysis” refers to actors who analyze screenplays to study a character’s emotional trajectory throughout the story. If the reader likes the screenplay, it gets passed along and moves upward, until it reaches an executive, who has the power to green-light the project. If a screenplay is picked up by a producer, production company, or a film studio, they will use the screenplay to attract actors and crew to the project. The screenplay will be used during preproduction to plan the necessary logistics to create the world of the story. During production, the cast and crew will rely on the screenplay to visually tell the story. Everyone who reads the screenplay during preproduction will analyze it. The areas in which the screenplay gets analyzed may differ depending on the person’s role for the project, but everyone will have analyzed the screenplay in one way or another.
