ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on the status, issues and special challenges for administrations that must deal with graduate student unions. After a brief history of the creation of such bargaining units, especially in the private sector and the varying viewpoints of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) over the years, the rest of the chapter will center on the complexity of the bargaining process itself; the best practices for administrations to follow in such negotiations; and thoughts on addressing social justice and equity issues.
