ABSTRACT

The chapter will discuss the importance of humanitarian workers knowing about profound stress. The journey is a self-experienced one, where I have twice gone through profound stress before I started to understand the roots and consequences of it. We go through overwhelming times and periods when we are working in humanitarian aid contexts, when the stress has physical and psychological consequences on the individual. This affects our personal life, our work life, and our ability to have a positive impact on people in need. The first level of starting with the process of attunement is to understand what is happening within yourself. It begins with self-awareness and then cascades down to the people present in your life. This mindset of thinking and lifestyle can be used in your daily life.
