ABSTRACT

Foreign nationals who are victims of crime in the United States have several channels by which to apply for immigration benefits. The Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA) provides relief for victims of violent crimes (“U” visas) and victims of sex or labor trafficking (“T” visas). This chapter describes the legal background of these types of immigration relief, followed by case study vignettes with detailed explanations of how to evaluate the psychological impact of trauma, what validated measures to use for assessing post-traumatic symptoms, and important factors to be included in a report.
