ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the core pedagogical principles of a learner-oriented approach to teaching and learning sport and games. After an introductory explanation about the conceptual framework followed in this approach, the main educational purposes, implementation context, and target community (learners, practitioners, teacher, and coach educators) are clarified. The structural domains of this approach are also explained, which simultaneously offers a tool for the progressive involvement of learners in the learning experience and supports the continual professional development of sport educators. The main pedagogical structures and instructional dynamics in this book are clarified, and the learning assumptions that guide a learner-oriented approach are explained. The end of the chapter defines several practical implications of the learner-oriented approach.
