ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to adopt a work and organisational psychology lens to understand the main individual and occupational implications of the current global change in work experience, specifically considering the current challenges for human and career sustainability and the threats to well-being and performance of individuals and organisations. The implications of this global change are discussed considering the Human Resource Management (HRM) practices that could be implemented to focus on the centrality of people in the workplace. The specific professional context of translation is discussed as an illustrative case study with specific consideration of its intrinsic work-related aspects and of the consequences and implications of the pandemic for its future. The HRM framework is proposed as a useful set of tools that can be used to explore professional translation.
