ABSTRACT
Disasters heighten our awareness of the lack of emergency preparedness and inequities that exist. This volume presents work that provides key insights into the role of mitigation in addressing many social disparities. The conclusion expands some of the current paradigms within social science to be more inclusive of public health and different populations to enhance social capital, build and sustain trust in institutions, and promote a culture of emergency preparedness as a way to guide us into the future.
